Moong Sabut Recipe

Ingredients:

 

  • 1 cup whole green gram (Moong Sabut), soaked overnight
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish

Instructions:

 

  • Drain the soaked whole green gram and rinse it thoroughly with water. Set it aside.
  • In a pressure cooker, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and fry until they start to sizzle.
  • Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  • Add the ginger paste and garlic paste and sauté for 30 seconds.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  • Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, and salt to the pressure cooker and sauté for a minute.
  • Add the soaked whole green gram and water to the pressure cooker and stir well.
  • Close the pressure cooker and cook on high heat for 5-6 whistles or until the whole green gram is soft and cooked through.
  • Once done, let the pressure release naturally.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
